Garnish tools used:
Step 1. Stabilisation
If the bottom part of your melon is not flat enough, use a large sharp knife to cut a thin slice from it. This ensures that the basket will stand upright without wobbling.

Step 2. Drawing lines
With a non-toxic marker, draw lines where you need to cut the melon to produce the basket shape.

Step 3. Removing parts
Use a large sharp knife to cut the melon from the top down to the horizontal line on both sides of the handle. Then make a horizontal cut and remove the detached parts. Be carefull not to cut off the basket handle.

Step 4. Basket handle
To remove the flesh of the handle, slice inward around the rim of the watermelon. Then press firmly and push the flesh out.

Step 5. Scoop out the melon
Use a melon baller or an ice cream scooper to make balls for the fruits salad to fill your basket. Then using a spoon or a knife trim along the side. When doing the melon balls, don't forget about the flesh from the parts you cut off earlier.

Step 6. Filling with fruit salad
Fill the basket with fruit salad. For a short term storage or transportation, you can use the removed melon parts to cover the filled basket.

Step 7. Carving out decorative shapes
Using a thin sharp knife cut out the shapes from the basket's edge and from the handle.

Step 8. Ready to serve
You are done!
